| Coprophagy (Cecotrophy)- Eating of the Night Feces Im sure you have seen your rabbit eating its own feces right from their anus at one time or another. Or you might have found feces of your rabbit that looked different than normal round pellets. Ones that were slimy like, with a bunch of tiny little ones stuck together. This is known as Coprophagy (Cecotrophy) or the eating of the night feces. This is a completely normal activity for rabbits. Them eating these feces is how they get their vitamin B. It helps them with digestion and helps them to receive nutrients. It occurs most often at night or in the early morning. Do not disturb your rabbit from doing this, as they need the vitamins and nutrients. Sometimes you will find some these feces leftover in the cage, which the rabbit didnt have time to eat. |
