1914-2001
Tove Jansson Was most of all known for the Moomintrolls she had created, but alwais considered herself first as an artist and writing as a hobby, though she enjoyed what the Moomin books had became and the happiness she gave the readers.She also was a Novellist , illustrator, and wrote adult fiction, short stories and memoirs.
She lived in a modest cottage in the archipelago of Finland, where she also wrote most of the Moomin books.

Tove Jansson was born on 9th og August 1914 ,
in Helsinki, Finland.
She was the oldest dauter of Swedish-Finnish parants artists:
Her mother, Singe Hammarsten jansson, a graphic- designer
and her father, Victor Jansson, a sculptor.
Her first brother,
Per was born in 1920, and her second brother,Lars,
who also took part in the Moomin stript cartoon and the animated series, was born in 1926 (died july 31 2000).
Her free childhood summer days in the Poorvo islands, where her family used to rent a cottage and spend the summer days there,
were an important background and inspiration to her Moomin books.
In the age of 15 Jansson moved to sweden to study art at Stockholm,
where she studied for 3 years.After she left this institute she studied art in Helsinki Art Society's drawing scholl for 4 years and one year in Paris.In the same age she started learning art she also published her first drawings in the liberal magazine "Garm",in which she worked for 25 years.Since 1932 Jansson hed exhibited in a few exhibitions in Finland and abroad. in the late1930's and 1940's she was considered as one of the most promising young artist in Finland.In 1943 Jansson had her first individual exhibition in Helsinki.Her second exhibition in 1946 was a commercial success.
Tove Jansson wrote the first Moomin book ,The little Trolls and the great flood, in 1939,but published it in 1945.
Her real breakthrough as children books writer came in 1948 with
Finn Family Moomintroll, which
was quickly translated into english and gained the Moomins their
international success.
Jansson draw the Moomin strip cartoon for the
London Evening News from 1953 to 1960, when her brother Lars took her place.
The strip cartoon was published in 20 languages over the worls and today finnish artists draw it.(it's

Moominshop.com).
The last Moomin book was written and published in 1970 , after her
mother's death.Although it was the last one, Jansson never stopped writing.
During The 1970's Moomin animation series was made in Japan.
(if it's the same one with the time machine it's a total disgrace to the Moomins).In the 1990's aMoomin animation in 78 parts was produced in Japan

Unlike the Moomins,they were marketed in every posible way: from motorcycle helmets and belts to candy and Finnair airplaines.

Tove Jansson recived much recognition for her life work as an author and artist, one of them is The Hans Cristian Andersen Medal 1966,the most honorable award in Scandinavia.
Jansson used to live on a small island in the archipelago of Finland with her companion in life, the graphic artist Tuulikki
Pietil  ,whose personality inspired the character Too-Ticky.

TOVE JANSSON died June 27th 2001 in Helsinki.
Jansson's life work is amasing, and can inspire many people.
she will be alwais remembered, as she left her mark over the  
world.
I know my life were different without Tove Jansson.
Moomins forever!
Moomin Museum in Tampere and Moominworld in Naantali
The Moomin Museum was opened in Tampere Art Museum in 1986.The Art Museum in Tampere collectes
about 2000 Moomin items, 1000 of them  the Moomin books original illustrayions,sketches from the Moomin cartoon strip,Moomin houses and more, though not all are exhibited all the time.
In 1991 Tove Jansson donated her drawings made for the magazine
Garm betwine the years 1933-1953.
The Museum orginizes today a memorial ehibition to honor Tove Jansson.

The
Moominworld in Naantali was opened in 1993 on a small island.
The amusement park is best to come in summer, may to september and
it kind of resembles Moominvally with the Moomin house, the beatch house, the bridg and of cours the moomin live characters and other things from Moominvally and the world of Moomintrolls.
