codedog and dot1burnt, just an example I wanted to bring to your attention. Maybe using the term spam was a little harsh for the situation, but here is a good place to reference. Since these users are guests for the most part, I dont mind showing how posts by the same person can be misconstrued as posts by one in the same. For instance, users "for dave940" and "exdotone" are the same person, they used two different usernames and could have been taken for two different people.

Im not trying to really defend my point about it being spam, just to show that it is possible.

Also, to the user I referenced above, dave asked a very good question and all you could do is basically criticize what he wrote, and then you made fun of one of our moderators. Not a good way to endear yourself to us bud.

I do want to compliment the various posters on ths topic for including the sources of the information. Unfortunately, the phpBB software does not seem to like long URLs. Copy/paste a long URL at http://www.snipurl.com/index.php or http://tinyurl.com/, and post your links that way.

I used SnipURL to replace the long urls in this thread. Nothing else was changed in any of your posts and I identified each with an edit note.

Notice now how much easier to read the post are without having to use the scrollbar. icon_biggrin.gif

Dot1web settles A two year old law suite, with the people Bob claimed tried to take over his company. Here's a link to the story from todays Tahoe bonanza: http://www.tahoebonanza.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?Site=TB&Date=20030115&Category=NEWS&ArtNo=301150102&Ref=AR

P.S. Also another interesting update all of dot1web's web sites are down today. Could Dot1web be down for the count?

Dave, there are two reasons why you shouldn't subscribe to Webwide ISP or support Dot1web. The first is moral and the second is logical.

Just as you would not support a company that contributes to a cause you dislike, you should not support a company that harms people. If you knew a company was funnelling money to the Al Queda, you'd stop purchasing from them, right? Now here's a company that fires its workers a week before Christmas, without pay, and has refused to pay them ( http://snurl.com/l8a). To boot, partners and company's that have been ripped off by the owner of this company for thousands of dollars have been reporting to freedomlist for weeks - and being removed for some reason. You should not support this mistreatment and deceitful practice. It's not morally responsible of you.

The other half of this reasoning is pure logic. This company is poorly run and unstable. The CEO has numerous lawsuits against him ( http://www.codedog.org/nv/court_actions.htm ), misleads the public ( http://snurl.com/l8b ) and cannot manage his money(http://snurl.com/l8c ). The CEO is under investigation by the FBI ( http://snurl.com/l8d ) and suspected of improper privacy acts ( http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/view.asp?id=2802 ). Nobody has yet looked into Dot1web's licensing practices

With evidence that the man behind Webwide ISP is immoral and a potential criminal, are you excited that this company has your credit card number and your personal information?

As a consumer, you should be aware of a company's buisiness practices. If they are improper, illegal or morally objectionable you should weigh this against the immediate gain of saving a few bucks. There are better ISP's out there that do not practice their businesses as questionably as Webwide ISP.

This reasoning sounds nice, but how many of us practice it? Our Christmas trees were loaded with toys, electronics, and other gifts from a communist nation with an abysmal human rights record (guess which?). I wanted to get my kids more than a block of wood this year, so I'm guilty of this.

It's a real stretch to expect this type of consumer vigilance on my part. How many of you are willing to check the tags inside your tennis shoes, and track down the production plants to ensure that the employees in these compounds are treated like human beings?

I do feel sorry for the Dotweb employees who were laid off. The previous poster's link states that apparently things might be turning around there, and former employees may soon see some of their benefits. But tell me what I should have known about this company as a consumer looking for an ISP on Dec. 20. Get real. As I alluded before, times are tough all around and I know a lot of people (and I'm sure many Freedomlisters do also) that would be a step or two up if they were in the position of laid off Dotweb employees.

As for the logical reason, I suppose my use of the Internet is too crude to notice a problem here as well. I was supplied a fast, unlimited connection on demand. I was supplied one more email address than I needed, which is none because I use webmail. I was supplied more web space than I use, which is zero. I have come to the conclusion that I don't really need the incrementally better speed that a UU backbone provides, but if I still were shopping for that, Webwide was a far better bargain than any other ISP out there.

All this is irrelevant for me now, because I cancelled by email (not in line with their terms of service, but it appears to have been automatically processed anyway). It states that I am cancelled as of today, but I still had access late this afternoon (not using it now and can't check until tomorrow). But, I no longer have a dog in this fight, so I'm outta this thread. I hope all works out for the best, for the ex-employees as well as whoever is left running Dotweb.

Is the Poetworld limo long enough for a crap table inside? I wonder...
