Quickling Dragons:
Habitat  & Ecology
Quickling Dragons evolved from a common ancestor as their larger more ferocious cousin.  Lacking the size and innate magical ability, as well as the power of flight, of the larger Dragon breeds, Quicklings allied themselves with the humanoid breeds.  This alliance is mutually beneficial as it provides the Quicklings with security against the other dragons while providing the humans with powerful allies.
Each Quickling is gifted with one superior ability that sets it apart from others.  These abilities are usually tied to its scale colors.  Scale coloration does not, however, relate to alignment in any way.  Common Quickling colors include but are not limited to; blue, green, red, orange, violet, white, black, gold, silver, copper, turquoise, grey, steel or olive.  Numerous colors will be born in one clutch and coloration seems to be random.
Quicklings are very intelligent and take class levels as they age.  Generally Quicklings have either Warrior, Sage, Expert, or Ranger levels, although Wizards and Priests are not uncommon and Rogues and Psions are not unheard of.  Quicklings also take Prestige Classes appropriate to their situation.
As part of their pact with the humanoids, Quicklings prefer not to hunt, but have their meals provided.  They also barter and expect payment for services rendered.  Quicklings come from all regions and nationalities.  They do hold political alligances and viewpoints.

Quick Quickling Facts:
*The average Quickling lives more than 500 years.  A Quickling is considered to be mature at 75 years old and is not considered old until 400 years.
*Quickling Base Movement rate is 80 and all are cosidered to have the "Run" and "Jump" feats.  Other feats are dependant on the individual dragon.
*Quicklings resent other Dragons as they are often made to feel inferior.  Quicklings are even rumored to gather in groups from time to time and kill a Wyrm or larger Dragon.  They generally quest their riders to assist them, then split the treasure.
*Quicklings do not have breath weapons, but Quickling wizards do cast spells from their mouths as if they were breathing.  This is thought to be more out of pride than necessity.
