                          PRESCHOOL
                          
Kettering Safety Village
Since 1965 , Dor-Wood has been teaching preschoolers the "rules of the road".  This program has been held at Orchard Park or Greenmont elementary schools in cooperation with the City of Kettering and the Kettering City Schools.



                                     
ELEMENTARY

                                            
Tri-Star Basketball
Local youth participate in a series of organized events that teach teamwork and skills through competition.  The emphasis is on sportsmanship and fun, rather than winning.

Local youth participate in a series of organized events that teach teamwork and skills through competition.  The emphasis is on sportsmanship and fun, rather than winning.

                                              
Firebird Futures
Local youth are invited to mini-camps that:
             Teach lessons about basketball
             Give tips on how to play better and more effectively

                                       
Partnership in Education at
                                      Beavertown Elementary School

Dor-Wood members provide tutoring and assistance to Beavertown Elementary students.



          
MIDDLE SCHOOL - HIGH SCHOOL

      Optimist International Junior World of Golf & Junior Golf Championship
    This golf tournament is for the youth of our community.  Winners of the tournament go on to compete at district, and international levels.  More than 4000 youngsters participate internationally with the top 800 advancing to the Optimist  International Junior Golf Championship, held at the PGA National Golf Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Garderns, FL.

                                         
Youth Appreciation Week
Area kids visit sponsor members' woprkplaces in the morning and then come to a Dor-Wood noon lunch meeting, where we celebrate the positive contributions the youth have made to the community.

                                  
Girls' and Boys' Oratorical Contest
Girls and Boys are invited to attend a club meeting and give a speech on a predetermined topic.  The winners advance to zone and district competitions.  Scholarships, totaling over $160,000 are awarded to district winners.

                                               
Tip Off Classic
Dor-Wood invites local high school basketball teams to start the high school basketball season by playing their first game at the University of Dayton Arena.  This special night of basketball brings together communities from throughout the Miami Valley.

                                               
Essay Contest


                         
Junior Optimist Club of Van Buren Middle School
This is an after-school club, operated in conjuction with Van Buren Middle School and the Kettering City Schools, whose purpose is to teach youth the value of optimism and community service.  The club holds events and participates in Dor-Wood functions as well.


                               
Octagon Club of Fairmont High School
This is an after-school club, operated in conjuction with Fairmont High School and the Kettering City Schools, whose purpose is to teach youth the value of optimism and community service.  The club holds events and participates in Dor-Wood functions as well.
