| "Town & Country Shopping Center should be a pretty happy place Saturday, when more than 50 youth members of Optimist Clubs from throughout Ohio hold their annual convention in the vacant space next to Trader Joe's. High school students who join Junior Optimist Octagon International will take part in their second annual convention. Amber Mitchell, 16, a junior at Kettering Fairmont High School and a member of the school's yoouth Optimist Club, is JOOI governor of the Ohio District, which encompasses the state of Ohio. She will be leading the convention which will include electing a new governor. The agenda will include breakout sessions on fund-raising, community projects and social activities. A resource officer from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Dept. will conduct a session about drugs and alcohol. The president of Optimist International, Yves Berthiaume of Ontario, Canada, will attend the convention." - excerpts from the Dayton Daily News, March 10, 2005 written by Joanne Clodfelter |
