OBITUARY
I am overwhelmed with sorrow as I contemplate
the enormity of the task before me. Yet I have assembled in my memory
so many good things from the righteous, good life she lived, duty impels
me to give expression to some of them that I might do honor to her good
name.
And with the hope that it may be an inspiration
not only to her immediate family and many friends, but to all who perchance
sould read these lines.
Sister Martha A. Landers was born in
Hardin County, Tennessee, January 21, 1849. On November 17, 1867,
she was married to E.G. Landers at Lunenburg, Ark. On the first Sunday
in June, 1881, she was baptized into the fellowship of the Missionary Baptist
church at Lunenburg. She later moved her membership to Melbourne
Baptist Church, where she served and worshiped as one of the most faithful
members until God said to her, "Come up higher," on March 5, 1926.
Sister Landers was the mother of six children, two of whom, a son and daughter,
have gone on before her into heaven.
She leaves a husband, son and three daughters
and several grand-children and a host of friends to wait for the summons
that will call us all home.
It was the writer's joy and privlege
to serve her as pastor for eleven years, and before I moved on the field
her home was my home and she sure did know how to make a young preacher
feel at home.
May God's richest blessings rest on Brother
Landers and children in this lonely hour.
