| THE SCARLET WHEEL | ||||||||||||||
| The Scarlet Path is more than just a magical discipline. It is also a means of aligning oneself with the great Wheel of Life. We call this Wheel the SCARLET WHEEL. The Wheel is a series of cycles that everything and everyone revolves within. The endless cycle of birth and death, returning ever and ever again, changing as it goes. Nothing escapes this great Wheel. Each of us is born, lives, and dies. People, families, tribes, nations, countries, continents, planets, stars, whole Universes, even Gods must go through this cycle. After all, Man creates Gods, Gods do not create Man. We personalize this by creating the image of a God that we can relate to, one who is beautiful and lusty, one who is born, grows up just as we grow up, goes through all the torments and challenges that we do, grows old, learns through His mistakes, and dies. There is nothing wrong with this, nothing wrong with old age, nothing wrong with death. We envision this God as the Sun God, and give him eight holy days. YULE (December 21) This is the Winter Solstice. The Sun is at its lowest point in the sky and the days the shortest. This has traditionally been observed as the birthday of the God. LUPERCALIA (Feb 2) This is a celebration of the young god (the youth in each of us) first becoming aware of the world around him, when faces become familiar, the world something apart from him, when he first becomes aware of his dick, although as of yet he doesn't know what to do with it. SPRING EQUINOX (March 21) This is a celeration of the young god (the youth in each of us) first experimenting in the joys of sex and love, and all that implies. . . the first hurt, the first heart-ache, the first orgasm with another person. BELTANE (May 1) This is the celebration of finally getting it right, when the young god (the youth in us) has gone beyond the pains of first blossom and met someone he can get involved with for longer than a day. This is the sharpening of our social skills, the realization that others have feelings besides ourselves, the beginnings of conscience. SUMMER SOLSTICE (June 21) This is the full blossom of the body and of love. The days are longest, the sun at its highest, the weather hot and sultry. Love has reached its peak. This is a celebration of that peak. LION'S DAY (Aug. 1) This is a celebration of the early harvest, when the God has matured to look beyond his dick, when he realizes there is mind too, and a spirit realm that he can neither see nor hear but can feel if he lets himself awaken, and that he doesn't have to experience every pleasure that trickles by, nor have to fuck every pretty body he sees. AUTUMN EQUINOX (Sept. 21) This is a celebration of the autumn of our lives, and the autumn of the God's life. Suddenly there are gray hairs where once there were none, there are wrinkles, you can't see as well as you could, and one-by-one your friends die. You become aware that you too one day will cease to exist, and as your eyes turn outward to the spirit, you become aware of things you can neither see nor touch, and begin longing for them. This is a natural progression, one that awakens in you as you grow older and wiser. It makes the next step easier, because you begin to awaken to the fact that the Spirit existed before the Body and will continue to exist after the Body perishes and decays, that we are (collectively) God and we are in a continual state of Creation, that Existence is caused by Existence, that Sentiency is forever. HALLOWEEN (Oct. 31) This is a celebration of death, but death is not final, nor is death evil, for we are not of this flesh, it is merely clothing we wear, a script we choose to play in order to learn what we must, and one day we will step out of this flesh and shine like the God that we are. In short, the Scarlet Wheel is the wheel of each of our lives. In it and through it, we glorify the Flesh, all the beauty and ugliness of it, all the pain and pleasure that goes with it, but the Flesh is the Spirit Manifest, not the end itself. Death aits for each of us at the end, but we are designed to learn and to grow wiser and more aware and when Death comes, we will become what we were meant to be -- a shining, glorious spirit, a God. For better or worse. |
