The History of Malice Mizer

Keep in mind that Kozi is spelled with 2 dots on top of the "o".
Prolouge:

Kozi was forced to learn how to play the piano and use the Japanese abacus when he was in primary school - he hated it.  Kozi was good in sports and painting which caused him the want of becoming a comic artist when he was young.  At an early age, Kozi was fond of foreign music (his brother who was 10 years older than him usually brought foreign music).  When Kozi was about 13 years old, he decided to form a band with his friends that play L.A metal-like music.  At the age of 16, Kozi quit high school and went to Tokyo even though it was against his parents' wish.  Kozi, with his only friend he had whom he met in a live-house in his hometown, lived in a car for a while because they had no money (in Tokyo).  They worked at a construction site in order to earm money and at the same time, they were supporting band members (I'm not sure which band).  Kozi tried many jobs and was even a bartender which was how he met Mana in 1991.
Mana play in the band "Ves.tearge" from Osaka.  Mana was willing to restart his life and came to Tokyo.  Because Mana is an introvert and doesn't talk much, Mana wouldn't talk with anyone that doesn't interest him.  Then, Mana met Kozi who had the same goals.  Kozi found Mana a very interesting person who opened up a special world to him (in musical senses).  The horror videos that Mana had surprised Kozi and Kozi called Mana a "metal guy" since Mana had very long golden hair.  Kozi, in order to find his style, like most artists, searched for his style through listening to all kinds of music (punk, rock n roll, etc.).  Kozi and Mana were in the band "Girl" together but not much was known about this band.  Later, the band Kozi was playing in called "Matenrow/Matenroe" needed a bass player.  Kozi introduced Mana as bassist.  They played together for a short while until the band disbanded.  Mana claimed learning a lot because before this, Mana always played the guitar and it was the first time to try the bass.  Kozi said that Mana played the guitar as if it was a bass and was swinging exaggeratedly like always.
Then, Kozi and Mana decided to form their own band, a band that will later be known as Malice Mizer.

The Beginning of Malice Mizer:
Malice Mizer was founded in August of 1992 by Kozi and Mana who both became the guitarists for Malice Mizer.  Kozi and Mand's band was not to become just one of the millions of other bands out there.  They had a goal - a theme.  A certain style and a unique look.  Their theme was "What is Human" (which cam later).  Their style was like that of an old European music.  What is that?  Well, I describe their music as the creepy church music in horror movies mix with goth.  Later, their style will become a bit darker and more opera-ish but in the beginning, it's still unique, but less goth.  Mana and Kozi wanted their band to play a new kind of music.   They started as an Indies band.  They had no money so they even had to find stage tools on the street once.  After the ideas were set, they got Yuki as their bass player, Tetsu as vocalist and Gaz on the Drums.
Beginning Line-up:  Tetsu (Vo), Kozi & Mana (G), Yuki (B) and Gaz (Dr)
*Vo=vocalist, G=Guitarist, B=Bassist, Dr=Drummer.  Keep in mind that Mana and Kozi are not only the guitarist, but also the founders, synthesizers and the main composers for Malice Mizer.

However, Gaz, on March 14, 1993 left Malice Mizer to drum for the band Kneuklid Romance.  Gaz had only stayed in Malice Mizer long enough to record "Speed of Desperate".  On March 15, 1993, Kami, the drummer from Kneuklid Romance, joined Malice Mizer.  So basically, Gaz and Kami switch bands.  Kami was first asked by Yuki to drum for Malice Mizer but he turned Yuki down.  When Mana asked Kami later, he reconsidered and wha la!  Kami became the drummer for Malice Mizer.

*12/5/94 to 12/21/94 - "Cher de memorie II" tour with 7 shows

On 12/27/94, Tetsu left because of "musical differences".  For about a year, Malice Mizer struggled to find a new vocalist and were just about to give up and make Kozi sing.  But they finally found Gackt (Gakuto for Japanese, with a silent "u" so it's pronunced Gack-to) as Malice Mizer's 2nd vocalist.  Gackt joined Malice Mizer on 10/10/95, 10 months after Tetsu left.
