Many of you know of the exploits of Barbie the cat. We got her at the pound when she was a few months old. She was a beautiful white cat with stunning blue eyes. I remember vividly them telling us there are no guarantees with the animals but if there is a problem, we could bring back the animal and trade it in for another. Right - like anyone in our family could unattach ourselves from an animal once we spent any time with it!!! We took her home and thought how cute it was that she was so clumsy! She went in for her checkup at the vet and he only commented on her beauty. She loved being outdoors and would dash across the yard at top speed. My only complaint was her catching birds and little bunnies. Hubby one day brought home a toy for her and hung it from the door frame. She showed no interest in it. Nada. Until we made it hit the floor and then she attacked it with a vengence. We started observing her with a different eye after that and noticed that if a piece of furniture was movied, she would bump into it. She would use the wall to get around and meow to find openings to go through. I called the vet again and took her back in. Sure enough she was blind as could be. She just had adapted very, very well to her environment. I praise the powers that be that brought her to us. She is an example of courage for all of us. Below are some photos of her on top of our swingset where she likes to go to survey her territory. And let me say it again - she is definitely blind!!! |
