| Yamato Nadeshiko ("Perfect Woman") Episode Eleven (Final) |
||||
Sakurako is sitting on a bench (its looks like the US) looking at a postcard and holding her chameleon. A little boy comes running after his basketball and stops in front of her. He asks her what she's doing, and she tells him that she's waiting for something very important, something she's been searching for all her life, perhaps even before she was born - the one "thing" in the world thats even more important than money. Flashback to the subsequent events after Sakurako runs off from her wedding ceremony: Higashijujou calmly asks Sakurako to explain what happened, but bowing her head, she only replies, "It's all my fault." Higashijujou's parents are yelling at her over the humiliation she brought them but again all she can say is "sorry, it's all my fault." Sakurako (recalling Osuke's words that he's not right for her) then bows low to Higashijujou and his family, apologizes again and leaves. Higashijujou mutters to himself in bewilderment at how much Sakurako isn't like her usual herself. At Sakuma's house Kasuya, Hanabusa, and Sakuma are talking about Sakurako's sudden departure during the wedding ceremony, guessing she probably found someone even richer than Higashijujou. Sakuma says nobody's heard anything after he saw her in her wedding dress at the hospital, and asks Osuke if he knows anything. The others figure out that she went to Osuke and confessed her love for him, and that he rejected her. Sakuma and Hanabusa tell him he did the right thing because she's only after money, that even if they had gotten together she would have left him for someone richer anyway. Sakuma guesses she's probably already grovelling at Higashijujou's feet asking him to take her back. Kasuya, however, tells Osuke he's a huge idiot for turning Sakurako away after she's run out on her fiance like that during the wedding ceremony. Walking in a daze toward her apartment, Sakurako is greeted by Wakaba, Nami, and Aya who ask where she's been. Sakurako only answers "it's all my fault." The girls, uncertain what she means, ask her again, but Sakurako once again answers "it's all my fault." Wakaba, Nami and Aya take Sakurako to a "gokon" believing it will help her recover. Sakurako, however, can only repeat the phrase "it's all my fault." Despite being prompted by the girls, Sakurako fails to carry out her famous gokon trick. When she finally makes the attempt, she fails (spilling all over the table), saying again "it's all my fault." Meanwhile, Kasuya and Osuke receive phone calls from Nami and Wakaba respectively. Both girls are concerned about Sakurako's strange behaviour. Wakaba, overhearing Nami say Sakurako went to see Osuke, grabs Nami's phone. Kasuya, still thinking he's talking to Nami, reveals to Wakaba that Sakurako went to Osuke and declared her love for him after she left the wedding ceremony. Osuke asks Kasuya who he's talking to. Wakaba tells Osuke that she lied to him about Sakurako looking happy at the wedding. Wakaba asks Osuke what Sakurako said to him when she appeared, and he tries not to make much of it, saying Sakurako was just nervous and really should be with someone rich like Higashijujo. Wakaba then asks Osuke if he really means that, or whether he's just afraid of getting hurt by Sakurako again. Sakurako is wandering the streets. Somewhere else Osuke is too. Sakurako recalls her wedding ceremony and the fear that she'd lose Osuke forever. (Flashback of her running in her wedding dress to see him) Osuke recalls Sakurako telling him that somehow he's found his way into her heart. The next day at his fish shop, Osuke is visited by his old professor. The Professor hands him his master's thesis and tells him to submit it with an application to graduate school. Back in his room, Osuke is lost in his math books and tells his mom he's going to the university for a visit. At a relaxation salon, Nami, Aya, and Wakaba, not knowing where Sakurako is worry about her. They remark that almost everyone who's reached her age of 28 has experienced a broken heart, but fear it may be especially bad for Sakurako because she has never experienced love before. At a beach, Sakurako recalls her life as a young girl and being teased for being poor, with her prince (Osuke) coming to save her. Her younger self comes to her and tells her, "There's nothing she can do since her prince doesn't love her." Sakurako moves toward the sea and picks up a one yen coin, gripping it in her hand, loudly declaring "It's NOT my fault AT ALL!" At Osuke's fishmarket Wakaba hears that Osuke's
doing research again for mathematics. She looks for him at the library and finds him, but
he is so absorbed in his books he doesn't realize she's there. At their gokon, the girls fear Sakurako may not show up, still not having been able to contact her. However, Sakurako shows up, with her old attitude stronger than ever. She doesn't waste any time, immediately pulling her spilling "accident." Aya, Nami, and Wakabe are amazed at Sakurako's recovery, that she's even more focused than before. Sakurako is being taken back to her apartment
by the man she's just met at the gokon when she sees Osuke walk by. Osuke bumps into
someone and drops some papers. Sakurako stops one of the sheets with the heel of her shoe
and Osuke realizes she's there. He apologizes for the other day, and she says she's
forgotten it already, that thanks to him, she's now set her sights for an even richer
person than before. Osuke then asks what happened to Higashijujo, and Sakurako asks
"who's that?" Sakurako asks what the paper is under her shoe, and he replies
that he's going to try his hand at mathematics again. She says its no concern of hers and
walks away. He tells her that if his thesis gets accepted, he could get into graduate
school again. Sakurako again claims its no concern of hers and walks away. At the university, Osuke's professor tells him
he's been accepted! He tells Osuke to do his best and "surprise" all the
students there. Osuke thanks him. Sakurako is in a daze brushing her teeth when Aya and Nami show up. They're worried about her and tell her she doesn't have to pretend not to be "heart broken", that every girl has experienced it before. Sakurako asks them what they're talking about. She says love is not for people, but for money, and that money can never betray you, so in her dictionary there is no such thing as a "broken heart." Since Sakurako appears to have recovered, Aya tells her that Osuke will be leaving for New York the following week. Hearing this Sakurako freezes, stares blankly, and drops the piece of bread she's eating. Aya puts the bread back into Sakurako's hand asking if she's ok. Of course Sakurako claims nothing is wrong, so Nami tells her she's been invited to Osuke's farewell party at Dr. Sakuma's house this Sunday. Sakurako keeps eating and doesnt respond to Nami's invitation, so Aya and Nami tell her she doesn't have to force herself. Sakurako says (with her mouth full) she's not "forcing" anything. Nami and Aya leave, telling Sakurako that if thats really the case, then she should go to Sakuma's party. While Osuke is absorbed in re-reading his thesis, Sakurako is wandering around, recalling the past few months with Osuke. Osuke is so lost in his studies, he completely fails to see Wakabe who went to see him at the university. Sakurako goes to the batting cages by herself, while Osuke prepares for his trip to New York. Meanwhile, Sakurako only has thoughts for Osuke. At the Sakumas, Osuke shows up a little late, but Sakurako has yet to arrive. Aya and Nami wonder whether she'll come or not, but Sakurako soon makes her appearance. As the dinner proceeds, Kasuya is getting tipsy and he tells Sakurako, while filling her glass, that this is the first time he's ever felt sorry for the "devil" (i.e. her), but that after all even the devil can fall in love and experience heart-break. Sakurako responds with her usual question, "I wonder who you could possibly be talking about?" To this Kasuya fills Sakurako's glass yet once again. Everyone reminices about their first meeting at the gokon, and Kasuya grabs Hanabusa and tells him how much he (Kasuya) loves Nami, saying that even if he's the last man on earth with millions of girls around him, he'll still continue to love her. Osuke remarks that it'll be tough for him to make ends meet on an instructor's salary, that he may even be worse off than now. Kasuya then says to Sakurako that if only she hadn't gone that fateful gokon where they had all first met, she'd probably be a rich lady by now. For Kasuya, however, that one impulsive act of running from her wedding to see Osuke has led him to re-evaluate Sakurako, to think that she may not be that bad after all.
With Sakurako on his back, Osuke is walking home with Wakabe.
Osuke puts Sakurako into her bed, and thinks he hears her say, "Dont run away!" but she's still asleep.
Mariko recieves a postcard from Osuke informing them he's found an apartment. Mariko playfully scolds Osuke for not writing more.
At the Sakumas' Mariko and Dr. Sakuma wish Sakurako a happy birthday. Being reminded its her 28th birthday, Sakurako realizes she's missed her peak age to get married. She tells the Sakumas that she's broken things off with Higashijujo. She breaks down, saying how she's lost everything. But at least now she realizes. . .
After leaving her apartment, Sakurako runs into Higashijujo who gives her a ride to the airport. He says its his birthday present to her. She tells him to be careful or some girl may take advantage of his kindness and Higashijujo tells her he still needs time to get over her and wishes Sakurako good luck. Sakurako runs into Aya, Nami, and Wakabe in the airport. They wish her good luck and Wakabe asks Sakurako to tell Osuke that Wakabe is recovering just fine, and not to worry about her. Sakurako bids them farewell and runs off. After landing in New York, catching a taxi to Osuke's university, and asking about Osuke's whereabouts, Sakurako sits down on a bench. A little boy who's come running after his basketball asks Sakurako what she's doing, and she says she's waiting for a very important "thing," something she's been searching for all her life, perhaps even before she was born~ the one "thing" in the world even more important than money. Osuke walks by and sees, to his surprise, Sakurako sitting with her toy chameleon on a bench. Each is surprised to see the other, and Sakurako apologizes. She tells Osuke she knows its unfair and inconvenient for her to show up suddenly without notice, but that she couldn't help herself, that she really wanted to see Osuke.
Epilogue: Flashes of scenes from Osuke and Sakurako living happily together in New York. Sakurako still loves to shop and Osuke is carrying on with his majime academic life, but they are clearly in love and very happy with their lives together. It ends with the scene of them walking down the aisle on their own (the perfect wedding!) and the whole gang showing up in their hotel room to celebrate with them.
