Many gaming sites have been posting news on the latest Doom 3 Alpha leak. This a basic compilation of the existing knowledge. id has traced the leak back to ATI who they beleive are responsible for posting it originally. Slashdot posted information on the topic four days ago regarding the leak and where alpha version tweaking could be found along with the latest screenshots (which have now, unfortunately, been mostly deleted). John Carmack soon made the story officially public when he addressed the Slashdots post. He wrote : "No, this was not leaked on purpose.
Yes, we are upset about it, and it will have some impact on how we deal with some companies in the future, but nothing drastic is going to change in terms of what support is going to be available.
Making any judgements from a snapshot intended for a non-interactive demo is ill advised."
The 300mb leak is an extremely early version of the game. Downloaders even with high end systems are experiencing extremely low frame-rates. The fact that the E3 presentation was running on a P4 system with 2gb of ram is a logical reason for this problem on average computers. People have posted FPS averaging 12 and going as low as 1 when enemies are present on screen. However, at this point gamers aren't really concerned with gameplay but rather focusing on the beauty of John Carmack's masterpiece. The Alpha leak is rumored to be available on edonkey. Good luck finding it.
