DNA Interpretation

DNA is measured using the number of loci "repeat" values for each of 25 markers. The numbers indicated under the DYS number indicate the number of units of repeating DNA segments.

Project Results

The results of our Dooley DNA test has clearly shown 9 groupings of Dooley descendants. According to this testing, Volunteers in Group A are definitely related. Three members of Group A are only 3 points off in 2 Loci. This is probably a mutation, which is a normal DNA process. Our conclusion is that this testing proves there is a definite relationship between the lines of Moses born ca1748, George born ca 1744, John born ca 1742, and with 3 mutations Thomas born ca 1735 Dooley is probably a distant relative. It does not, however prove that any of them were brothers, only that they share a common ancestor.

Group B was matched to Group A in only 3 of 12 Loci which could have related these two groups between approximately 236 and 319 generations prior to today, therefore not in the 1700s. However Group B was matched to Group E in 8 of 12 Loci, to group D in 8 of 12 Loci and to group C in 6 of 12 Loci, which would mean they are closer related to these groups than to Group A. This grouping from the line of Jacob Dooley born ca 1755 shows a definite relationship with exact matches of 5 volunteers, which will give these people a direction in their research.

Group C was matched to Group A in only 1 of 12 Loci which could have related these two groups between approximately 286 and 369 generations prior to today, therefore not in the 1700s. However Group C was matched to Group D in 8 of 12 Loci, to group B in 6 of 12 Loci and to group E in 10 of 12 Loci, which would mean they are closer related to these groups than to Group A. It is possible that C could be distantly related to group E considering the possibility of more than one mutation.  This group does connect the two lines, which had been in question prior to the testing.

Group D was matched to Group A in only 1 of 12 Loci which could have related these two groups between approximately 286 and 369 generations prior to today, therefore not in the 1700s. However Group D was matched to Group E in 8 of 12 Loci, to group B in 8 of 12 Loci and to group C in 8 of 12 Loci, which would mean they are closer related to these groups than to Group A. This should answer some of the questions of the researchers of James Dooley b. 1760 as to researching in another possible direction for their ancestors.

Group E was matched to Group A in only 1 of 12 Loci which could have related these two groups between approximately 286 and 369 generations prior to today, therefore not in the 1700s. However Group E was matched to Group D in 8 of 12 Loci, to group B in 8 of 12 Loci and to group C in 10 of 12 Loci, which would mean they are closer related to these groups than to Group A. It is possible that E could be distantly related to group C considering the possibility of more than one mutation.
