dec 5 1999 Michael was at Whitney Houston's Charitable Foundation last night

Michael Jackson Makes Rare Appearance It was jaw-dropping, to say the least: last night, Michael Jackson appeared out of nowhere at a fund-raiser for Whitney Houston's charitable foundation. It was at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square, at a function filled with mega celebrities. Jackson, looking tall and lanky and a bit pale, with beard stubble, eschewed his usual masks, glasses, hats, and scarves. It was just him, with a couple of unimposing bodyguards. He made small talk with Whitney and hubby Bobby Brown, then took a center seat and stayed to watch performances by everyone from Petula Clark to Whitney herself. Jackson clearly wants to be back in the mainstream. New York radio star Frankie Blue, who later got an award from the foundation, said in his thank you address: "Michael, I will always be there for you. Let's have a tour and an album in America." I think the campaign has begun. More tomorrow on this extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime event.
