Shangri-la Meets Neverland

Two otherworldly celebs were in alignment Sunday. The Dalai Lama, earthly embodiment of the Buddha of Compassion, granted an audience to Michael Jackson, who some think is just visiting Earth.

It was the first meeting of His Holiness and His Weirdness, says a Jackson spokesman. The King of Pop arrived at the Mark Hotel wearing his traditional vestment: a black mask. The Dalai Lama, garbed in his monk's robe, spoke with the singer for about 20 minutes.

The Dalai Lama headed off yesterday for Bloomington, Ind., where he's due to spend 12 days teaching thousands of followers. Jackson is sticking around New York, finishing an album that execs at Sony Epic hope to have out for Christmas. While here, he has been catching up with some old friends. A few weeks ago, he dined at a New York apartment with Dolly Parton and Elizabeth Taylor. According to a source, the focus of much of their table talk was the death of John Kennedy Jr. and the dangers celebs face when flying private planes. (Mike Todd, Liz Hubby No. 3, died in a plane crash.)
