Fleaona
She was born in a litter of six. She happened to be the youngest. There were her older sisters Panda, Annabel and her three brothers Spike, Toddey and Maddy. Her name was Chace and she was a Boarder Collie. She was the fastest of her siblings and had a black and white caot. The white was on her chest in the shape of a big cross and on her front right paw. she also had a small patch of white on her chin.
As a Boarder Collie, she had a job of hearding sheeps. Chace loved to keep the sheep in their place, loved to run in the fields all day. She also had friends. They were not the normal dog kind of friends. They were little bloodsucking Fleas. Chace had gained the little black insects in the fields where she used to chase the sheep. There was one special flea, named Fleaona, that she liked.
This flea was kind and didn't eat off of Chace, only her brother Toddey. The little black flea would talk to Chace after her long day in the fields. Fleaona would stay in the barn all day waiting for Chace to come back at the end of the day. Chace would always tell stories about being out in the pastures and how wonderful it is. Fleaona loved to hear about the way Chace told about the long, wide green pastures and how Chace could tell the change of weather by the sound of the creek down the road. Fleaona would tell Chace about the barn and what Chace's master's wife has been doing. Chace enjoyed hearing about the new things around the house. There was one time when Fleaona told about how one of the neighbors came over and bugged the wife about how Chace's master didn't need all the dogs, for Chace's siblings and parents also lived with her at the farm. The neighbor was trying to get her to sell a few of them, but the wife said no.
Chace has grown old and isn't as fast as she used to be. She has grown up and is too old to chase sheep. Her days are spent laying in the barn, waiting for her time to go. Fleaona had passed away years ago, but she left behind offspring, including another flea named Fleaona.
"Tell me again, Chace. What is it like out there?" Fleaona begged Chace to tell a story.
"Well, I remember it like yesterday, like my normal days out watching the sheep. My master was sitting at the bottom of the hill, under the willow tree. Panda, Annabel, Spike, Toddey and Maddy were chasing eachother's tails. Mom and Dad were sitting with my master, but me... I was sitting at the top of the hill. It was like I was on top of the world. The green hillside, the creek down the road, I could hear it. Half full from the rains we had. The wind ran across my hair as I ran...The sheeps ran in the other direction...My siblings would bark to me... Those were the good days. I used to be called a good girl by my master- - But now...Now, that doesn't happen. Panda, Maddy, Spike, Toddey, and Maddy... they're all gone. I'm left here until it's my time. I remember telling your great, great, great, great, great grandmother Fleaona. She would always have me tell her these stories. And she tell me about her stories. She was a great flea. Always spoke kind words to me. Never bit me... she was great. Died before her time." Chace let out a heavy sigh as she rested her head on her paws.
"How did it happen?" Fleaona jumped out of the way of Chace's breath.
"My master's wife... She took the bedding we used to have and got rid of it. Luckily, her just born flea was on me, and was able to carry on with your existence." Chace let out another sigh and closed her eyes. "I need to rest... Maybe I'll see Fleaona soon.
In her sleep, Chace passed away. She joined Fleaona in animal heaven, where they were able to talk about the good old days when Chace was little and Fleaona was alive.
