What do all
those letters and numbers mean?
Letterboxers traditionally keep track of their stats:
How many boxes they've Found,
How many boxes they've Planted,
and so on.
Rather than
try to explain it (since we still don't understand
what some of those letters mean ourselves)
more
information can be found at the
Letterboxing North America Website FAQ
You can also visit one of the other Letterboxing websites in
existence.
We personally like the glossary that fellow Letterboxer
SpringChick has
at her website, Stamp-in-the-Box
Since many
Letterboxers create their own meanings
for the letters they use to track their stats,
here is what our letters mean:
P = Planted
F = Found
FF = First Finder of a planted box *
HH = Hitchhiker ^
A = Attempts (boxes we've tried to find, but alas...) +
V = Virtual Letterbox
PLB = Postal Letterbox
E = Event Stamps
X = Exchanges* We think being a First Finder is a special thing, so we "brag" by showing a count in parentheses, since it's really part of our total F count.
^ Since hitchhikers count towards your total Found count, we include them in our F number, but then list the actual hitchhikers count separately in parentheses,
because again, we want to "brag."+ By "boxes we've tried to find," we mean that we actually found the location, got out of the car, and either thought we found the hiding place but no box there, or we walked around in circles until we were dizzy trying to interpret the clues but not getting that "ah-ha!" moment. Usually when we call it an "attempt" we console ourselves by getting ice cream instead.
