Congratulations!

You've found the secret link that's going to answer the question
we know you’ve been asking since you found our page:  What IS a Doodle Bug?

This is a real doodlebug:

Kind of icky, huh?  Doodlebugs are also known as antlions,
and more information on them can be found here
or here

We prefer to use a ladybug image when we visualize the letterboxing variety of the doodle and deedle bugs.  (As far as we can tell, there is no actual deedlebug.)  When not letterboxing, Doodle & Deedle Bug are known as Diane and Jeff, from Parma and Brooklyn, Ohio.  Diane got the nickname Doodle Bug before we began letterboxing (and before we'd ever seen a photo of a REAL doodlebug).  She has a tendency to walk around humming "do do-do do do do" when doing chores around the house.  Jeff thought it was really cute and the name "Doodle Bug" came into his head.  He then became the "Deedle Bug" because, well, it just seemed to work well with Doodle Bug.  When it came time to choose letterboxing trail names, those nicknames just seemed apropos.

Take me back!
