| The Mahananda aWildlife aSanctuary aconstitutes athe aforests of the lower catchment area of the Mahananda river, and covers an area of 158.04 sq.km. Situated at the western end of the aelephant migration route, amore than 150 elephants ashelter here aduring the amonsoon and winter seasons. Migratory water a birds are a common in winter. a The other animals found are the rare Mountain Goat (Serow), aTigers, aSpotted Deer, Barking Deer, aGaur (Indian bison), Leopards, aGoral, Wild Boar, Golden Cat and Monkeys, Jungle Cats, Porcupines, aHimalayan Civets, aMonitor Lizards, aSnakes, Hornbill, Racket Trail Drongo etc. aThe Sanctuary offers asome beautiful atrekking routes from Sukna. Golaghat, Deorali and the Latpancher-Mana track are the favourites for trekking and bird watching. Sukna, about 7 km from Siliguri, is the main entry point, and has a Nature Interpretation Centre.The rare 'Salamander' is found in 'Namtinpukri' , awhich is 5 km from Latpanchar. aThere is one a watch tower named 'Laltong', 8 mile from Siligur from where one can enjoy the nice view of Teesta river-bed which is a favourite play ground of the Elephants. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The National Park is alocated in the Darjeeling district, West Bengal.
