ALBUM REVIEW

UNFORGETTABLE FIFTIES -
(Heartland / BMG 2CD set # 1072/4-2 DVC 2-0867)

This compilation, pressed by BMG and released by Heartland in 1988, can still be found in record stores - sometimes in "bargain bins." This is not a doo-wop or rock 'n' roll collection. It is, however, an excellent compilation of 1950s "pop" music - probably more appreciated by your older siblings or parents than the "rock 'n' roll" that we bought in great quantities on 45 rpm singles in the late 1950s.

All 50 tracks are bona-fide chart hits from the 1950s, even if the version of Sh-Boom in this package is by the Crew Cuts. Other artists featured include Perry Como, Red Foley, Eddie Fisher, Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney, Domenico Modugno, and, yes, the one-and-only Elvis. The track listing below should suffice as additional description.

A good collection of 1950s "pop" - get it if you can to broaden your understanding of music during this decade.
