THE TRENIERS - THEY ROCK! THEY ROLL! THEY SWING! -
(Legacy Okeh/Epic CD #EK 66800)

The Treniers were a rowdy, rocking stage act that combined acrobatic dancing, burlesque comedy, and stunts, all timed to music. This "family" act consisted of identical twins Claude and Cliff (d. 1983), older brother Buddy, and younger brother Milt.

This 1995 release features 20 tracks (including 5 previously-unreleased items) from their years on the Okeh label (1951- 1955).

While older brother Buddy was first to play professionally, in Mobile, the act began officially when Claude, working in NYC in 1944, convinced his boss, jazz-band leader Jimmie Lunceford, to hire Cliff as well. In 1945 they left Lunceford, and Claude moved to California, where he spent 1946 playing in various locations, including a period with Joe Liggins and his Honeydrippers. His success drew Cliff to Los Angeles. Cliff was followed by Milt and Buddy some time later.

In the early fifties, the Treniers' real heyday began. They signed with the Okeh label, producing a remarkable string of killer sides, in terms of quality, if not always sales. It's been said that the Treniers couldn't capture all the energy of their live act within the confines of a recording studio. Their energetic TV appearances were marvels of synchronous acrobatics. But their recordings are some of early Rock 'N' Roll's finest moments nonetheless.
