Released in 2000 & 2001 by England's Sanctuary Records Group (Castle/Pulse), these two 3-CD sets are an economical way to acquire a good collection of recordings from Sam Phillips' Sun label and its subsidiaries (Flip and Phillips International).
Each CD contains 20 tracks, for a total of 120 songs, covering practically every artist to ever record for Sun (notable by his absence, except in "Million Dollar Quartet" selections, is, of course, Elvis Presley). The breadth of genres is interesting - blues, hillbilly, R&B, rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, country, even some "mainstream pop" and a touch of gospel. A good cross-section of the Sun catalog, which continues to be "mined" by reissue labels worldwide.
Tracks are in a generally random, not chronological, order. Liner notes, while not heavily detailed, are adequate, however, recording and/or release dates are not noted in Volume 1; Volume 2 shows years of release (with many tracks released decades after they recorded).
