ALBUM REVIEW
THE SILHOUETTES - GET A JOB -
(Collectables CD #5748)
This 1996 Collectables release presents 13 tracks by the Silhouettes.
Regrettably, in my opinion, the group seems to have peaked with their
first release, Get A Job / I Am Lonely, as the rest of their work,
as presented here, is in the main unremarkable. Although I Am Lonely
never charted, it's been a long-time personal favorite - a ballad that
deserved, but never received, significant airplay.
Of the remaining 11 tracks, only two really catch my ear - Bing Bong
and I Sold My Heart To The Junkman. The rest are, in my opinion,
rather forgettable - they just lack any kind of "hook" to catch your
attention.
Todd Baptista's extensive liner notes give a good history of the group, but
you may need a mangifying glass to read them because they appear to be
set in four point, or at most five point, type.
Unless you're a dyed-in-the-wool Silhouettes fan, I'd give this one a
"pass" and look for the four good tracks on compilation albums unless
you can get this one real cheap.
