ALBUM REVIEW

THE MILLS BROTHERS -
(Cocktail Hour / Double Take 2 CD set #CRG 218041)

This 2000 set from the Allegro Corporation's Cocktail Hour series contains 28 tracks from the heyday of the Mills Brothers' career, including a track with Louis Armstrong. As Mills Brothers compilations go, this package is as good as any other - comprehensive, but far from all-inclusive. It fills the bill for a good "representational" collection of Mills Brothers hits.

Liner notes are non-existent. You get no history (or even recording or release dates), so you'll have to look elsewhere for this info. All you get is a track listing.

Nonetheless, this is as economical a means as any for adding Mills Brothers hit performances to your collection.

Some of the Mills Brothers' "Soundies" are featured on the Rare Vocal Groups video, which is also reviewed on this Web site.

Worth the price.
