JUMPIN' & JIVIN' - A NOSTALGIC COLLECTION -
(Gallerie 2 CD set # GALE 447)

This 2-CD set, released in 1999 by England's Music Collectors International, owners of the Gallerie marque, contains 48 post-war examples of what is generally called "jump blues" or "jive," from several of the field's greatest performers. You'll also find some blues ballads here, and, believe it or not, there's even a "spiritual" component, that blends in well with the "secular" performances. This package is one of a series, the vast majority of which feature "big band" and "pop" artists of the 1940s. The tunes in this set all date from 1945, 1946, 1947, or 1948, just a few years prior to the "Rock 'N' Roll" era.

The track listing below should suffice to describe the package further. The set is reasonably priced, generally retailing for under $20.

Recommended to everyone interested in exploring the sources of the Rock 'N' Roll "explosion," which took place a few years later.
