ALBUM REVIEW

THE HARPTONES - A SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE -
(Relic CD # 7021)

This CD from the now-defunct Relic label, is still available from some "oldies" music dealers. The 12-page booklet with notes by Donn Fileti is informative, providing a good outline of the group's career. John Charles Marion has a Harptones Web page with a good summary of the group's history.

From 1953 to 1957, the Harptones recorded for Monte Bruce, Leo Rogers, Hy Weiss, and George Goldner. This package contains their recordings for Bruce and Rogers, supplemented by three "live" tracks. It is the "sole source" for a "complete" run of Bruce, Andrea and Tip Top label Harptones cuts. The Weiss and Goldner recordings can be found on other "Harptones" CDs.

Get this one while it's still available.
