Another recent transcription compilation from Old Time Records, this package contains 12 tracks by the Jubalaires, 4 by the Bronzemen, and 10 by the Golden Gate Quartet.
The Jubalaires were George MacFadden, Theodore Brooks, John Jennings and Caleb Ginyard -They had releases on Decca in 1944/1950, on King/Queen (as the Jubilaires) in 1947/1950, on Capitol 1949 and 1951, and on Crown (as the Original Jubalaires) in the early 1950's.
I have no information about the Bronzemen, other than that they recorded these acapella transcriptions circa 1939 and never made "commercial" records.
The Golden Gate Quartet started singining in the mid 1930s and are probaly the best known of all the great spiritual groups. Original members were Willie Johnson (who later joined The Jubalaires), Henry Owens, William Langford and Orlandus Wilson. They were later joined by Clyde Riddick and Caleb Ginyard of the Jubalaires and Dixieaires. They did it all - records, radio, movies, and live perfomances all over the world for about 60 years
Again, there are NO liner notes, but the vintage of these tracks is from the late 1930s and 1940s. Assistance in pinpointing the recording dates of these tracks and the source disc(s) of the Golden Gate Quartet numbers would be appreciated.
