UNA MAE CARLISLE - CLASSICS - 1944 - 1950
(Classics CD # 1265)

This 2002 release from the French Classics (a/k/a "Chronogical" [Jazz] Classics) label concludes Ms. Carlisle's work for the Joe Davis label, with the one released track, and one originally unreleased track which were cut at her final session for Davis on October 20, 1944. All that is missing from this session is the alternate take of "The Rest Of My Life."

This package makes practically all of the remainder of Ms. Carlisle's released recordings available for the first time on CD. It includes her 1946 session for Heman Lubinsky's Savoy label, one track from her 1947 work on National, her four 1950 sessions on Columbia, and concludes with six medleys which she is believed to have produced herself, had custom-pressed by RCA, and distributed to selected disc jockeys (note the "DJ" in each of the record numbers) in 1950, after her Columbia contract ended.

We do find it surprising that "Where The River Meets The Sea," the flip side of "Stop Goin' Through The Motions," on National was not included here; liner notes state that it "...could not be found," but we have seen the original 78 rpm disc offered in Internet auctions.

All in all, this CD is a worthwhile purchase. Get it if you can.
