THE FOUR TUNES - THE COMPLETE JUBILEE SESSIONS -
(Sequel 2 CD set # NED CD 229)

Released in 1992 by the British Sequel label, and now out of print, this package, with excellent notes by Peter Grendysa, presents EVERY song recorded for the Jubilee label by this group which descended tangentially from the original Ink Spots, including early demo work and other previously unreleased sides.

Ivory "Deek" Watson left the original Ink Spots in 1944 and formed his own group, ultimately called the Brown Dots, which consisted of Watson, William "Pat" Best, Jimmy Gordon and Joe King (soon replaced by Jimmy Nabbie). By the end of 1946, the Brown Dots, less Watson, had begun also recording on the side for Manor with Danny Owens, formerly of the Coleman Brothers, as the Sentimentalists. Tommy Dorsey objected to their use of this name because the vocal group with his orchestra was using it, so these Sentimentalists became the Four Tunes. In 1949 the Four Tunes began recording for RCA, having left Manor, and in 1953 they moved on to Jubilee, recording in a principally "pop" vein, where they remained until 1959. They returned to Jubilee in 1962 to cut a few sides which remained "in the can" until resurrected for this compilation.
