ALEXANDRIA
Inside Graeco-Roman Museum
Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 332 BC. When Alexander died one of his generals, Ptolemy, took power and made Alexandria a large flourishing city. The city was home to the Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, but no longer exists. The Graeco-Roman Museum contains various sculptures and paintings from the classical era. Pompey's Pillar, originally from the temple of Serapis, 25m high, was erected in honour of the Emperor Diocletain.
