| Why God Gave the Sanctuary to Mankind | ||||||||||||||||||
| When Adam sinned he immediately became afraid of God "I heard thy voice in the garden and I was afraid" (Gen. 3:10) Since then, mankind has been always trying to stay out of God's presence. In the wilderness, when God gave the 10 commandments, the children of Israel ran away and said to Moses "speak thou with us and we will hear but let not God speak with us lest we die" (Exodus 20:19) However, God has always wanted to get back into a close relationship with mankind and has been making every possible effort to communicate this to us. Therefore in Exodus 25:8 He presented a plan to Moses. He said, "Let them make me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them." This sanctuary was supposed to teach Israel the ways of God and let them learn about His great love and the plan He had devised for their salvation. At the same time, He would make His presence known in their midst by the holiness of the sanctuary and its services. Today, a study of the services of the Jewish sanctuary with a proper understanding of their special significances will again help to refocus our minds on the love of God and draw us into a closer relationship with Him |
