| A ballet score in the classical ballet form telling the story Venus, the goddess of love, and her love/infatuation with the beautiful young Adonis. 1. A-Prologue 2. A1-Curtain 3. B-Valse (Wood Nymphs) 4. B1, B2, B3- Venus sees Adonis at his birth (he is born full grown) and falls in love with the beautiful youth on sight) 5. C-Pas de deux (the lovers meet) 6. C1-Variation 1 (Adonis) 7. C2-Variation 2 (Venus) 8. C3-Coda (Venus and Adonis pledge their love one to another) 9. C4-Development (Persephone, who has been watching the dance, enters and is overcome with Adonis’ beauty. Venus is angered and flees in a jealous rage.) 10. D, D1 (Persephone dances trying to entice Adonis to her) D2 (the Wood Nymphs enter, coming to the aid of their friend Persephone) D3-Promenade (Persephone and Wood Nymphs) 11. E-Grand Valse (Adonis joins Persephone and Wood Nymphs in the waltz.) 12. F-Wood Nymphs disperse - Venus, Persephone and Adonis are left on stage. F1 (Adonis dances alone) F2 (Venus dances alone then is joined by Adonis) F3 (Persephone dances alone later joined by Venus then Adonis) 13. G (Wood Nymphs appear encircling the dancers - Venus and Persephone exit leaving Adonis alone with the Nymphs who wildly dance around him until he is no longer visible - as they move away Adonis is seen lying lifeless on the ground. The Nymphs lift Adonis and carry his dead body off stage.) 14. G1, G2, G3 (Venus has re-entered and witnessed the death of her lover - she is overcome with emotion and loss - she recalls her time with Adonis as she dances; on the spot where Adonis has expired a single drop of his blood has fallen upon the ground, a large bright red flower has sprung up from the blood - Venus picks the flower holding it to her breast momentarily - she kisses the flower and lifts it toward the heavens as the curtain falls.) - D.L.R.
