Chapter 5
The Beatitudes
And
seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and
when he was set, his disciples came unto him: |
Salt and Light
13 Ye are the salt of the earth:
but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it
be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be
cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. |
The Fulfillment of the Law
17 Think not that I am come to
destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to
destroy, but to fulfil. |
Murder
21 Ye have heard that it was
said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and
whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: |
Adultery
27 Ye have heard that it was
said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
|
Divorce
31 It hath been said, Whosoever
shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of
divorcement: |
Oaths
33 Again, ye have heard that it
hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not
forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine
oaths: |
An Eye for an Eye
38 Ye have heard that it hath
been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: |
Love for Enemies
43 Ye have heard that it hath
been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine
enemy. |
Chapter 6
Giving to the Needy
Take heed that ye do not your alms before
men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of
your Father which is in heaven. |
Prayer
5 And when thou prayest, thou
shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray
standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the
streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto
you, They have their reward. |
Fasting
16 Moreover when ye fast, be
not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they
disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to
fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. |
Treasures in Heaven
19 Lay not up for yourselves
treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal: |
Do Not Worry
25 Therefore I say unto you,
Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what
ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put
on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than
raiment? |
Chapter 7
Judging Others
Judge not, that ye be not judged. |
Ask, Seek, Knock
7 Ask,
and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock,
and it shall be opened unto you: |
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 Enter ye in at the strait
gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that
leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in
thereat: |
A Tree and Its Fruit
15 Beware of false prophets,
which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they
are ravening wolves. |
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 Therefore
whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,
I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house
upon a rock: |
Chapter 8
The Man with Leprosy
When
he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes
followed him. |
The Faith of the Centurion
5 And when Jesus
was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a
centurion, beseeching him, |
Jesus Heals Many
14 And when Jesus
was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother
laid, and sick of a fever. |
The Cost of Following Jesus
18 Now when Jesus
saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to
depart unto the other side. |
Jesus Calms the Storm
23 And when he was
entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. |
The Healing of Two Demon-possessed Men
28 And when he was
come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes,
there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of
the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by
that way. |
