Season Two Began in April 2004 and More Episodes are in Production
Since the first episode premiered in October 2003 at director/creator Allen Scott's Isla Vista studio, "Life and Times..." has gone on to become one fo the most popular and influential television programs on the air today. The series traces the trials and tribulations of a group of high school friends from Tulelake, California as they move forward in their lives outside of their hometown. However, this was not the original premise of the series.
In the summer of 2002, hot off the success of "The Christmas Project," Allen Scott was looking for a follow-up project. Knowing that time constraints would not allow him to begin shooting another feature, Scott decided to document his life in a television series entitled "The Life and Times of Allen Scott." In fact, it was under this title that "Episode One: The Road to Santa Barbara" was released.
Then, while editing "Episode Two: The Germans," Scott decided that he wanted to expand the scope of the series. He contacted his friend and frequent collaborator Seth Binderup, a well-known actor and radio personality. Together, they decided that they would take the focus of the episode off of Scott and instead concentrate a group of friends from small town as they go their seperate ways and experience the trials and tribulations of life as young adults. They then shortened the name of the series, calling it just "Life and Times..."
Scott would continue to direct the series until the fourth installment. This would be Binderup's directorial debut and the episode, entitled "Home for the Holidays," documented the boys' return to their hometown for the Christmas and New Years holidays. Binderup would direct one other episode during the first season - "Episode Six: The ConTour of California."
The first season concluded with a two part episode called "Graduation." Both episodes were directed by Scott. The first one (Episode Eight) took place in Chico, California with the boys attending the graduation of their friends Maria Hantziantonakis and Corey Thompson. The second part (Episode Nine) found the boys returning to Tulelake once again. This time it was to take part in Nick Scott's high school graduation. Both episodes were received with praise.
The "Life and Time..." series continues with its second season, already underway. Binderup directed the premier, an episode which established many important story lines for the early part of the season. At the time of publication, Scott is working on the post-production for another installment in his Isla Vista studio. Another episode has already been filmed, ensuring that the "Life and Times..." series will continue.
