the agape table is there is a country where there is a sumptious feast with every delicious food you could imagine. the table is laden with yummy things. yet there was no laughter, no happy dining sounds, no chatter. upon closer examination you see that the people are hollow eyed and starving. the problem is this. there are only ten foot forks and spoons and knives. the only rule in the country is that you have to use these utensils. so the people there were starving because they were trying to feed themselves.
then in another country it is almost the same scenario, but not. people are laughing noisy sounds of eating and chatter fill the air. they have the same deliciously prepared banquet, but the difference was that they were fat and happy because they were lifting the forks and spoons and knives and feeding each other across the table. That's how God wants us to be whether the table is religious differences, race, sex, anything.
this is the story that made me sit up and run to ask Andy if he wanted to promise not to break up over our religious differences. i knew the most important thing was love, and that's what we had. i wanted us to reach across our differences and not let them hurt us. but they did, and he broke his promise.
