Things That Convince Me Adventism is a Cult

Adventist try to cozy up to orthodox Christianity by saying they only have a few minor doctrine differences. but it is flat out not true. but adventists are smart, they know if they tell other Christians outright what they believe that they'll recognize how far apart they are from orthodox Christianity. The saddest part is that Adventism wants to be recognized as mainstream. Well, at least some of the Adventists I've talked to. The truth is that Adventism has more similarities to Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses. I think that the deception of their "minor doctrine differences" is the most dangerous thing about Adventism. it's deceitful. All my ex had to say is: I believe that Jesus is Michael the Archangel, that Ellen G. White is a Prophet and was inspired by the Holy Spirit, and that there will be a National Sunday law forcing all people to worship on Sunday. I would have left in a heartbeat because these are all unbiblical things. But, no, he waited until a year had passed to tell me these things.

Extra biblical authority that relied heavily on visions and plagarism (Ellen G. White)

Continual upholding of Ellen G. White

. Ministry Magazine of October, 1981 contained many startling statements, not the least of which was this one on page 8, "We believe the revelation and inspiration of both the Bible and Ellen White's writings to be of equal quality. The superintendence of the Holy Spirit was just as careful and thorough in one case as in the other."

Isolation - communities, heavy emphasis on private school system, livelihoods entirely dependent on adventist communities, isolated in theological matters (no discussion with others outside of Adventism)

Extreme hostility to differing opinions on doctrine

Special Truths - belief that they given special truths

"They believe they are far beyond the Evangelical Christian with special revelations and superior experiences"

Aberrant Doctrine - EGW, Investigative Judgement, Day of Atonement, Hell is Annihilation, Sabbath, Soul Sleep, Health Msg

Guilt - the guilt so many former Adventists have confessed to feeling

The Clear Water "Book" - which my ex keeps maintaining isn't supposed to be used as a Bible.  it is just flat out the Bible with Ellen G. White's writings inserted to make it seem like Sabbath Observance is still necessary.

don't listen to me (since I'm not even an adventist) listen to someone who was adventist (4th generation! eek!)

note, i wasn't calling adventism a cult for more than a year. it was former adventists calling adventism a cult that started the thought.
