1st and 2nd Dorchester Brownies

We have 2 Brownie units. 1st Brownies meet on Wednesday and have 22 girls, and 2nd Brownies meet on Mondays and have 24 girls. We are divided into smaller groups called circles. Each circle has a name like Gnomes, Dryads, Fairies and Elves. Once each circle has taken attendance, dues are collected, and the meeting opens.

We have lots of fun at Brownies - some of our favourite things are - district camp, winter sleepover, hiking around the Dorchester Pond, going bowling, and playing games and doing crafts at our meetings.  This year we're going to celebrate Walt Disney's 100th birthday, visit the Donnybrook Girl Guides, try ice sculpting, go to a theatre production and go to Michaels Craft store for a craft lesson.  Plus tons more - our leaders, Brown Owl, Tawny Owl, Snowy Owl and Wise Owl keep up busy.

Each circle has its own song to sing as they skip around the toad stool.

Dryads
Playful Dryads strong and true,

Nature's friend in all we do.

Elves
This is what we do as Elves,

Think of others, not ourselves

Fairies
We're the fairies shining bright,

Trying hard to do what's right

Gnomes
Here you see the laughing gnomes,

Helping others in our homes

Other badges the girls earn are called Outlooks. They go on the back of their badge scarfs, with the program ones on the front. Two of the most favorite to earn are:

Pets: This outlook is to help the girls learn to take care of their pets.

Crafts:  This outlook helps the girls learn to try a variety of crafts using different skills and materials.

This is how we tie our Brownie Scarf
(Reef Knot - also know as a Square Knot)

Holding one end of each rope in each hand, pass the left rope over the right, and tuck under. Then pass the same rope, now in the right hand, over the left rope, and tuck under.

It is common to chant "Left over Right and Under, Right over Left and Under" when tying the knot.
