HOLIDAY INN AND BOWLING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
                                     VAPOR TRAILS TOUR

So I'm finally getting around to telling this story.  Please forgive me if it sounds a bit melancholy as that's the mood I'm in now.  I'm sure all of you understand that Post Rush Tour Distress Syndrome!  Caution:  This is likely to turn into a novelette as I go along!  I promise not to use any last names of other fans that I met along the way.
After seeing Rush in Atlanta and getting teary-eyed as I thought it might be my last Rush concert this tour and perhaps ever, I knew I'd have to attend one more concert and what better than to see their final U.S. show in Manchester, NH.  My first Rush show was in 1978, the A Farewell to Kings tour (I was 13), and I haven't missed a tour since.  And, fortunately, Rush toured every year for awhile, then at least every 2 years or so.  So, to say the least, I was heartbroken when I thought Rush might not tour again after T4E!  But, moving along...

So I decided that I would have to go to NH.  Another fan that I attended the Albuquerque show with (front row center) decided to hook up again for this show and we got 2nd row (Alex) seats for the NH show.

The concert was on a Sunday night, but I arrived a day early concerned about travel delays.  As the plane set down in Manchester and I got up to disembark, I noticed that 2 guys across from me had a Vapor Trails CD sitting there and I doubted it was coincidence that they were arriving in Manchester the day before a Rush concert.  I asked "Are you guys here to see Rush?  I just flew in from Tampa!"  Of course, it was no coincidence.  Then another guy a few rows up spoke up and said "I just flew in from Tampa too to see Rush!"

As I went to catch a ride on the courtesy van to go to my hotel, the Holiday Inn, the other Tampa Rush fan, Victor (great name -- I know *hehe*) was also waiting for the van.  He was on the phone with his friend who had already checked into the hotel (they flew in from different cities) and exclaimed to me "You won't believe this -- my friend said the band is staying there and he just shook hands with Alex!"  I think my heart stopped for a second!

Of course, Victor and I became fast friends and the same with Bill (his friend).  After checking in, we went to the hotel bar and talked about all of our Rush adventures.  While at the bar we met up with another fan, Glenn (so this makes "The Bowling Alley Four").

Bill had just been let in on a tidbit of info that Rush was treating the crew to a party at a bowling alley a few blocks away (apparently the only place in town for a party) and Bill and Vic were planning on going.  My initial reaction was "I don't think I should go -- that's their private time.  I'm at a lot of shows in the first couple of rows and if they recognize me (unlikely -- but you never know) I don't want them to get the wrong impression."  But after awhile, and a couple of beers later, the question was posed "How can you NOT go?? -- You don't have to approach anyone -- just observe..."  And they were right -- How could I NOT go??  So off we went to the bowling alley.
The party was in a private room (which we assumed it would be), and they also had lanes reserved at the far end of the alley.  So The Bowling Alley Four went into the bar at the front of the building.  Rush had not yet arrived, but would soon.
