I was recently looking for records of my relatives' entry into America at the EllisIsland.org website, and was thrilled to find information about my grandfather.
On August 1, 1896, the ship "Etruria" (pictured at left) comes to Ellis Island carrying many passengers... among them was a four-year-old from Sweden, who would eventually become my grandfather. He arrived with his mother (Josefina) Amalia, his brother Gustaf and sister Hildur.
The background of this page should be showing a copy of the official ship's manifest, which is available at EllisIsland.org
Below are some pictures of Arvid through the years
Every time I visit Ellis Island.org, I am quite enthralled. So many people!! So many stories!! There are many other relatives I'd like to find a record of... maybe I'll add more to my "Ellis Island" web pages! With a little bit of detail, you too can find who you're looking for. It can be daunting (especially if its a very common name!-- but once I knew my grandfather had come over when he was about 4, and found his name with those of his brother, sister, and mother, I knew I had the right spot! Take a look at this wonderful website. Alot of people must have spent alot of time copying and posting all these records onto the web. THANKYOU!
