If you are like me, you love to wake up with a nice hot cup of coffee each morning.
You may not know it, but coffee filters, paper towels, etc. are white because they're bleached.
This is done for aesthetics; the process of bleaching paper is responsible for creating dioxin.
Dioxin is a deadly toxin that has been dumped into our waterways.
Americans buy billions of bleached coffee filters every year, and then throw them away after one use!
How can you help? One way is to use reuseable coffee filters.
I just bought a new coffeemaker a few months ago and I was so pleased to learn that I could buy a reusable filter.
I just wash it out after every use! When I clean my coffeemaker and pot by running a vinegar and water solution through it,
I leave the reuseable coffee filter in place and it gets clean too.
Janet (Colorado) asks: "Where do I get these filters?"
Answer: I have a Mr. Coffee coffeemaker and the reusable filter (also made by Mr. Coffee) was bought separately at the same store.
In my case I got it at Kohls, but I am sure these are available at most department and discount stores.
If you can't find the reuseable filter, the next best thing is to find the unbleached natural paper filters.
