The elbows

The elbows are tied to your body as follows: Around each elbow, there is a chain that is closed with a screw link. To each of the chains, there are two massive metal rings connected. So there is a total of four rings. Two of the rings will be connected with a chain behind your back, and two will be connected by a chain around your chest. The combination of both chains ensures that your elbows are tied to closely your body.

Each of the elbow chains goes twice around the elbow, and each time it goes through both of its rings. It is closed with a screwlink or a key ring. The chain should be put just above the elbow. When you do it for the first time, it is quite hard to put the elbow chains on their place, because you can use only one hand. After a couple of times it will be easier. The rings should be big and thick, with a diameter of at least with 4.5 centimeter diameter. Unfortunately, the skin of your arms can get pinched between the chain and the rings. However, this risk is much smaller when the rings are thick. They should be at least 7 mm thick. Washing your elbows in advance decreases the risk, especially when it is hot.

The elbow chain must be not too tight, to avoid circulation problems!

Safety Remarks

The elbow chain can cause circulation problems to the hands, especially when it is cold in the room. When the blood circulation to your hands is impaired, they may be become numb, or weaker than usual. You may be unable to free yourself!

Important Warning

You may be tempted to put the rings as shown on the second drawing below, in order to avoid that your skin gets pinched between the chain and the ring. Never do that! It is extremely dangerous! When there is a force on the rings, the other cycle will close and cut off the blood circulation to your hands very drastically. I tried this once with the keys lying next to me, and I could hardly escape. A few minutes longer and I would not have escaped. This is the most dangerous aspect of the BPBH.

This is one of the chains that I use for the elbows. I have put a color mark at the position where I always close them, (not visible) so that I do not have to find out the right length each time I use them. The smaller ring with the key ring is connected to the chest chain. This is done with the key ring. The bigger ring is for the back chain.

This is how everything looks on my elbow. The skin irritation is caused by the fact that I just spent one hour in the BPBH.
