Known By: Did You Know: Painted Deserts are a spotted sheep with many variations of coloring, including dark spots on a white body or white spots on a dark body. The spots can be large, small, oval or splashy. The minimally marked Painted Desert usually has a blaze, stockings, white tail tip, and sometimes small markings on the hips. The "framed" or "mantled" sheep has a dark lower body with a largely solid white or roan upper body. There may be speckles and freckles. Then there is the wildly spotted sheep that has spots all over. Whatever the pattern, these are all Painted Deserts. The Painted Desert is a color variation of the Corsican sheep that is the hybrid offspring of Mouflon x Barbados breeding. The Texas Dall, Black Hawaiian, and Painted Desert are color variations of the Corsican sheep. These sheep are the most sought after game ranch trophy sheep in the United States.
