Germany's Mosel River Valley

The beautiful farmland around the Mosel is gently rolling until you start the steep descent into the river valley. We stopped at gasthaus that is next to the ruins of a castle, had a drink and took a few pictures of the river. Let's start with the picture of Judie with our friends, Bob & Elga.

The next two shots are of the distant view from the gasthaus.

The river separates the towns of Traben, on the same side as the photographer, and Trarbach. This shows them looking across at one another.

This photo of Traben gives you an idea how steep the cliff is in some places.

Later that day Judie and I visited one of the famous castles that guarded the river. This was Burg Thurant from the approach road already perhaps 50 feet above the level of the river.

Once up there you got to see the family's private chapel, the dungeon and a few ruins. Not too exciting. But the view was excellent!

Now it is time to return to our homepage.
