Cells and Cell Transport
Can you identify all the major parts of the cells in this picture?
Cheek Cells Under High Power

Onion Cells Stained with Iodine
(Small Dots are Nuclei)

Right picture shows chromosomes during prophase of mitosis
Normal plant cell has water pushing chloroplasts up against the cell membrane which in turn is pushed against the cell wall
(Turgor Pressure)
Same plant cell (Elodea) that has been placed in salt water.  Since there is more water inside the cells than outside, water leaves, and the cell membrane shrinks into the middle, taking the chloroplasts with it.  This process is called PLASMOLYSIS
