| Due to the fact that this was the Scruffy Murphys first time to compete in an international event, the prospect of any success was not realistic. The club were inexperienced and were not sure what to expect and were hoping to give a good performance in their group. They took part in both the 640 and 680 open club competitions. The 680 kilo competition on Thursday, the first day of the championship was a good success for the club. They managed to pick up 8 points finishing 4th and missing out on qualification to the last 16. Scruffy Murphys also put on a respectable performance on Friday in the 640 kilo competition. The experience will hopefully prove to benificial to the club and will hopefully compete in many international events in years to come. | ||||||
Killylough from County Monaghan were one of the favourites for the 560 kilo open club competition but faced a tuff group from which they missed out on qualification to the last 16. They also missed out on the last 16 in the 680 kilo competition. The club however done well in the 640 kilo competition reaching the quarter final stage. Many of their pullers represented Ireland and came away with both silver and bronze medals so overall it was a successful championship for the boys from Monaghan. |
