Tug of War Basics
Introduction
Tug of war is a Sport pulled in over 20 countries.
Ireland is currently considered one of the strongest countries in the sport.
The Pull
A match is pulled on a Heat or Pull basis.
The best of 3 pulls is declared the winner.
A winner of a Pull is where one team (the winner) pulls the other team 4 meters.
A Team consists of 8 pullers and a non-pulling coach.
The Rope
The Rope is 100mm/4in in diameter and 32 meters long.
A Judge will referee the pull to ensure that the pull is within the rules.
Match/Pull
Championships are usually held on a League basis.
A knock out system can also be used.
Current Status of the Sport
There are currently 60 teams approx. in Ireland.
There are currently approx 20 teams in Leinster
