This is
Donegal Town RFC's underage section's second year in
full league action. The Demons are continually growing
in size (physically and numerically!) with many towns
feeding the club such as Killybegs, Glenties, Ardara,
Kilcar and Stranorlar.
Squads
of Under-14, 16 and Under 18's all travel throughout
Ulster to Compete against some of the best underage
teams in the country. Under 10's and 12's also have
competitive matches but do not travel as often as their
elders.
A recent
merger with the Ballyshannon Rugby Club has brought more
youth players in to add more competition for places and
hopefully add more success.
The
Youth section has produced 5 Ulster Youth trialists, 4
of which are still in contention for their province, 1
has made the Irish youth squad (see
here). With the Ballyshannon merger, the Under-18's
inherited another Ulster player in Eoghan McNeill, to
add to Donal Byrne, Ronan Gillespie, Pete-so Cannon and
Conal O'Callaghan.
The above players
(excluding Ronan) were part of the County Donegal
Under-16 panel which at one point contained 14 Demons
players. This team was reasonably successful in
Inter-county competition and returned home from a trial
with a win, a draw and an unlucky defeat. |
