Done Dirty rose from the ashes of New York punk band No Simple Answers. Following the demise of NSA, Mike and Oli began playing again in the fall of 2000. This collaboration lead to several arrests and plenty of noise complaints but little new material. Oli left for school and the band went on a hiatus, only to reemerge 500 miles north in Montreal. A four story aparment building in Montreal's Queen Mary street was forever defiled after leasing Apartment 1 to Mike, Oli, Ben and Dillon, the original Done Dirty Line up. The band was born in Mike's bedroom during 10am to 6pm rehearsals throughout the winter of 2002-03. Dodging noise complaints and flicked bottle caps, Done Dirty put together material for their first demo, recorded in Febuary 2003.
These songs, recorded at CJLO studios with Diego Ferro, were well recieved by the band's fans and friends, and were followed by shows around the Montreal area. Praticularly notorious was the bands performance on the roof of 3687 Colonial. Bringing their sound to the masses, albeit for four songs, this show exposed the St Laurent club fucks to what can be accomplished with 2 amps, a drum set and no noise permit.
The following fall the band was back in the studio to record their second album, II. This album showcases much greater diversity then the first, incorporating elements of hardcore, reggae, and metal. Even hip hop was thrown into the mix, with local B Green rhyming on Lifestyles, a standout track on the album.
2004 will see the release of this album, along with shows at Emergenze, L'x, and hopefully a homecoming show in New York. |
