Family Values
I guess this should have a sub-title such as POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. This is a very hard subject to approach with out offending someone. Please forgive me if I do.
Every mother and father wants their children to succeed in life. Have a better more fulfilling life they did. Hard to do in todays fast paced world. Politics and religion are the two things that get in the way of most things. Should not happen, my family consists of democrats and republicans. My family also consists of Christians, Jewish and Buddhist. It's amazing we all get along.
Conventional wisdom says we should never let a child feel a sense of failure. Why? That's part of life. What should be taught is don't let failure stop you. Learn from your failure, learn what you did wrong or where you made a mistake and don't let it happen again.
Another thing is confrontation. Yes avoid it. However there are bad people in the world. Sometimes it is unavoidable, you try to leave and the idiot won't drop it. Happened to me twice. Once with an ex son-in-law who was a racist and considered my daughter as chattel. Could have been deadly as fire arms were involved. You have to teach children when to back off, but have them prepared to fight if necessary.
Okay...time for some laughs. POLITICAL CORRECTNESS...again going back to the seventies. I had a black friend. We used to have fun shocking people. At parties, I'd show up and he'd holler, "Hey here's my favorite honkey." I'd respond "Wow, my favorite nigger is here." Definitely not PC. People have lost the ability to laugh at themselves.
