I've got to hand it to you guys, you've made these boards really addictive, in fact, a little too addictive for my liking; I've got to take a break. With 10,000 posts gone, I've realized that I've spent way too much time on here and I probably should devote more time to the outside world, the real world. So yeah, this is my last post for a long time. My insider will run out in 2 weeks and I have no intention on renewing it. Maybe one day, I’ll get bored and cave in, but until then, here are my final impressions for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
When I first played Ocarina of Time back in 1998, I fell in love with the epic-ness of the game, nothing like this was ever done before and never did I expect anything to surpass it. When Metroid Prime was on the verge of release, I had high hopes for the game but at the same time, I was skeptical. Can newcomer Retro Studios do justice to the series? Is 1st Person really the way to go? Have we waited 8 years for a bomb? Well, luckily, Retro pulled through with flying colors (wtf does flying colors mean anyway?).
  
With Echoes on the horizon, I lowered my expectations because frankly, there's no way the sequel would be better than the original; Much like how Majora's Mask failed to impress those who had played through Ocarina of Time. Nintendo later released the demo of MP2 which I tried very briefly and to tell you the truth, I wasn't very impressed with it. That didn't stop me from hyping Echoes because even if the game didn't live up to the original, I knew it would still be good.
  
Earlier today, I delivered the final blow to (Caution: highlighting will reveal the final boss) Dark Samus and like that, I had completed Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't floored with the whole game. From beginning to end, Metroid Prime 2 delivered and surpassed the original in every single aspect. There was more action, more cinema, more enemies, more bosses, more puzzles, more challenge and, best of all, more strategy was required. I absolutely loved the game and I can easily confirm that this is my favorite videogame of all time.
  
If I had to pick one thing that I loved the most about this game, it would have to be the art directions. Nintendo, don't you ever get rid of Andrew Jones. The game is simply stunning and is unlike anything I've ever seen before; every room has its own unique look. Even though Dark Aether and Aether are supposed to be mirrored, they look very different. Retro Studios are not lazy; they did not just mirror the planet like most other developers would. They really put their hearts into the game and you can tell, this is not a rush job. Aether looks believable, Aether feels like a real planet that's out there. In ten years from now, when the Gamecube is just a memory, if you go back and play Echoes, it will still look impressive because of the art.
  
Gameplay wise, the game delivers. It's Metroid Prime 1 but with a new setting. Strangely enough, the game is a huge departure from the series, in fact, almost all of the enemies are original and the beams are not the same. There is a great balance where the game doesn't feel like a Metroid Prime rehash, but at the same time it still feels like a Metroid game.
  
One thing that really stuck out in Metroid Prime 1 was the boss battles. While the last fight with Metroid Prime was a bit uninspired, Thardos and Omega Pirate were two of the best battles in recent memory. Echoes packs in a lot more bosses/mini-bosses than Prime did and each one of them is unique. I love the fact that some of the bosses require the morphball to be conquered. Spider Guardian and Boost Guardian are the two of the most creative fights in any game. The last battle is a great and epic conclusion to the game. The three forms of the Ing Emperor and the fight with Dark Samus during the escape sequence can only be described with the word "wow".
To conclude, if you've ever liked any Metroid game, if you liked Metroid Prime 1, if you like SciFi or if you want a new adventure game to add to your collection, you owe it to yourself to buy Metroid Prime 2. If you're looking for a first person shooter, wait for Timesplitters 3 or try another console, this game isn't for you.

Congrats on 10k, it's about time
Great write-up on Echoes, although I have to disagree and say that Prime is better, imo, mostly due to the piss-poor story of Echoes.
You better not leave for good  I'll hunt you down and force you to post again if I don't see you within 2 months.
